Why You Need a Survival Bag
By
You may have heard a survival bag also referred to as a 72 hour kit or Bug Out Bag. No matter the name, these kits are designed to serve one main purpose. That purpose is to provide you with the basic tools and survival supplies you need during a disaster. Normally the amount of supplies included are limited to sustaining you for just a few days.
During a disaster, natural or man made, you could find yourself stranded in your home, car or even at work. In this type of situation you might not have the items you need for an extended period. For this reason, it is best to plan ahead and be prepared.
It is often stated that in the event of a disaster, it could take emergency responders up to three days to find or make contact with you. During this time you might have to rely on only those items you have with you. Although this might not seem like too long a time to wait, imagine that you have nothing to eat or drink. Now 72 hours seems much longer.
You might tend to believe that just because you live in an urban area, you would never need to consider this type of preparation and planning. If you're like me, the closest store is just a few blocks away so I could always get the items I need before a situation arises. Even if I had to walk instead of drive, it is very close to my home.
Now consider a freak snow storm or heavy rains that cause unprecedented flooding. All of the sudden, the store might be totally unreachable. Even if you can get to the store, will it be open? Now consider a tornado or severe thunderstorm that causes a power outage in the middle of the night. These are just a few examples of natural disasters that could radically change your lifestyle.
In addition to natural disasters, you could also be affected by man made situations. You've probably heard about water lines being accidentally cut or broken. Maybe a power line is cut or knocked down causing a loss of power. It's hard for any of us to predict these types of situations, that is why we all need to take some time and assemble a survival bag.
To be proactive today, I invite you to check out some of the 72 hour Survival Kits available online.
