Why You Must Have First Aid Bags In Your Car And Home

survival medical tipsFirst aid bags may be something that most people don't really think about until they need them. They get purchased and then they sit, unused, for a long time. Just like a fire extinguisher, it is something that you have and hope will never need to use.

But it's important to have each of these on hand. Ideally in the home and in your main vehicle. There is no way of predicting when there might be an accident, and if you have no medical supplies on hand, you might be in trouble. Cell phones have made it possible to call 911 from almost anywhere, but that doesn't mean help will always arrive immediately.

Taking a first aid course and getting some CPR training is also important. Just because you have a kit ready to go does not mean you'll instinctively know the best way to use it. Even if you haven't had any formal training, it is still a good idea to have a kit ready and available in both your home and auto survival bag.

There are many basic supplies commonly found in almost all kits. Bandages, gauze, antiseptic spray, burn spray, as well as, painkillers and other basic medications. Most of us know what to do with these items, so it isn't like we need to be a doctor in order to get some use out of these during an emergency.

For people with allergies or other health problems that can cause a sudden onslaught of symptoms, there are other things that you can add into your first aid kit. For people that do this, it becomes important to check the kits every couple of months to make sure whatever medications you have added are not expired. It helps to replace them with newer drugs every three to six months, and to make sure that the rest of the bag is still fully stocked.

First aid has been known to save lives in the past. People getting immediate treatment, while waiting for professionals to arrive, normally have better chances of not having complications as a result of their injuries.

There is a wide price range on these kits. They can easily range in price from around twenty dollars to over two hundred dollars. The difference is in how many supplies they have in them. If the plan is to use these bags for a single family, then you probably won't need a top of the line medical bag. However, if you and your family are often on outings that take you a ways away from cities, then you might want to get one that has more variety in it.

You should also consider getting extra supplies for your first aid bags when you are going to certain places. For example, people going out to camp in places that have rattlesnakes or other venomous snakes, might consider adding a snake bite kit. Or if you are going to be out in the cold you can add heat packs. You hopefully won't need either, but as they say, luck is ninety percent preparation.
